Animal Surrender

HSNT accepts animals seven days a week at 1840 E. Lancaster. To see our hours of operations please click here. When releasing the animal, whether owned or found stray, a signature and identification are required to fully relinquish the animal into our care. HSNT does not have a standard release fee; however, a donation is requested to help offset expenses. HSNT is one of the few shelters in the state that doesn't charge a fee to release an animal nor require an appointment. Relinguishments are unpredictable and it can get bery busy especially during the Spring and Summer months. Please come prepared for a wait, take a number, have an id available, and remember please do not bring sick animals into the shelter without consulting with the staff and don't leave animals in vehicles during the heat.

If you are considering releasing your animal to HSNT, please realize we often receive more than one hundred animals a day and it's best if you use HSNT as a last resort.

If you have thought this through, and have decided to release your animal to HSNT please fill out this pet personality form to help us know more about the animal or complete it online here.

If you are surrendering your pet due to behavioral problems, we encourage you to visit the Animal Education section of our site to learn about helping troubled pets. With the right training and resources, most pets can be rehabilitated.

If you are surrendering your pet due to an impending apartment move, we encourage you to visit this Pet Friendly Apartment site  to learn of apartments which will allow pets.

If you are releasing an unplanned litter, please be sure to ask how we can help you - so you can visit us because you want to - not because you have to. HSNT will spay/neuter any parent of a litter released to HSNT for free regardless of income.

Our East Lancaster location is an open door facility which cannot guarantee adoption. This location does not require a fee nor an appointment.
